A national organization, One Warm Coat was started in 1992 by Lois Pavlow, a concerned citizen of San Francisco, who found herself with a coat, which she wished to donate to a person truly in need of a warm coat for the winter. Lois did not want to have the coat pass through an agency where a person would pay for the coat—she wanted it provided free. The organization’s dream is that One Warm Coat becomes a part of the American lifestyle. When a coat is no longer needed, people will think of One Warm Coat. They will make their donation knowing that children, women and men in need will receive a gift of a warm coat. To learn more visit their website at www.onewarmcoat.org.
COTS offers help and hope to homeless persons in Sonoma County by providing safe shelter and housing, helping people develop steady incomes and helping them get back under a roof of their own. The organization helps homeless families become stable and break the cycle of homelessness by teaching homeless parents to make their children's needs a high priority and to provide a safe, loving and secure home for their children. COTS is strongly support by the cities and communities of Petaluma and Rohnert Park, and the County of Sonoma. Founded in 1988, COTS works cooperatively with numerous social service providers in the North Bay region and relies heavily on community volunteers, who last year provided over 50,000 hours of their time.

Ritter Center was established in 1980 as Marin County’s primary safety net to respond to the need of the County’s low-and-no-income residents. All programs at Ritter Center focus on providing highly professional services with respect and compassion and on assuring that effective case management enables clients to access related services that provide an integrated response to complex needs.
The organization functions as Marin’s primary access point back to the mainstream for homeless persons and a critical safety net for the working poor and other at-risk populations. All services are offered free of charge. Ritter Center’s mission is to provide immediate assistance and relief so that people are able to meet their daily needs: food, clothing, a warm shower and private restrooms with hygiene supplies, and laundry facilities.
