2002, Concord, Calif. – A highlight in one’s
career is certainly to be honored,
applauded and called one of the “Greats” by a group
of well-respected peers.
This past week’s Home Builders Association G.R.E.A.T.S.
awards ceremony, held at
the San Ramon Marriott, was just such a highlight for veteran
builder Doyle Heaton. His
company, Delco Builders and Developers was honored by more
than 400 industry peers
as the 2002 Builder Recipient for Grand Recognition of Exemplary
Achievement in
Teamwork and Service for overall Integrity and Accomplishment.
Competing for the award were such formidable giants as Centex
Homes, Pulte Homes,
and Cobblestone Homes. So it was humbling and a bit surprising,
admits the local
builder, when he heard his name called. But not surprised
were his loyal staff who were
in full attendance, or his colleagues, some of more than 35
years, who gave Heaton a
standing ovation.
“Everyone in the homebuilder industry knows Doyle for
his integrity, honesty and
commitment to the advancement of this industry,” said
Sharon Moore of Creative Design
Group who was the winner in the subcontractor category.
Heaton, who was inducted into the Builders Hall of Fame in
2001, has received numerous awards and honors spanning his
career; however, Heaton called this one special. “To
be honored by so many exceptional people who are in their
own right “GREATS,” was a proud moment for me
and my staff,” admits Heaton.
Heaton grew up working in the building industry alongside
his father, also a developer,
in Boise, Idaho. He started Delco Builders and Developers
in 1977 and has since built thousands of homes for Northern
California families. He currently has projects in Walnut
Creek, Fremont, Hayward and Novato.
