PETALUMA,
Calif. - September 8, 2003 - The Old Adobe Union
School District has
raised the $120,000 needed to restore its music program. Local
builders Basin
Street Properties, North Bay Construction, Cobblestone Homes
and Delco Builders,
as well as local foundations have come together and generously
provided monies
to maintain the school district's chorus and band programs.
The combined donation from each builder totaled $50,000,
and The Schlinger
Foundation and the Donald and Maureen Green Foundation gifted
the remaining
$10,000 via grants of $5,000 each. Earlier this year, $60,000
was raised through
parental donations to the Enrich and Educate Fund, the school
district's non-profit
foundation.
"This was a true community and industry effort, which
will benefit a very important
cause," said Matt White, president and CEO of Basin Street
Properties. "It was
gratifying to work with other community-oriented builders
such as North Bay
Construction, Cobblestone Homes and Delco Builders to raise
the dollars needed
to bring back the music program in time for the new school
year."
In March 2003, the Old Adobe Union School District was forced
to cut its music
program due to the state's budget crisis. After an impressive
local effort by parents
and the Enrich and Educate Fund, $60,000 was raised. However,
this amount would
curtail the fourth grade music program and limit fifth and
sixth graders to music once
a week. An additional $60,000 was needed to restore the entire
program. With the
combined support of local builders, parents and concerned
foundations, the dollars
needed were donated in time for the 2003-2004 school year.
"Giving back to the community has been and remains one
of North Bay Construction's
top priorities," said John Barella, president of North
Bay Construction. "In addition to
the Adobe School District fundraising, we support many other
worthy causes in the
Petaluma area. We are grateful that continued construction
and development projects
give us the opportunity to provide this level of support."
Joe Keith, president of Cobblestone Homes, added: "What
we're seeing in Adobe
School District is a classic example of a community coming
together to ensure that
1,000 school children will be able to continue their endeavors
in both band and choir.
The parents did their share by raising $60,000 - now the business
community is doing
their part. Cobblestone Homes is honored to be a contributing
partner." v "We are
thankful we had the chance to work as a team with the other
builders toward such a
deserving cause," said Doyle Heaton, president and CEO
of Delco Builders. "After
nearly 15 years of doing business in this region, we are more
committed than ever to
continuing to do what we can for our local schools, programs
and community."
