Doyle Heaton Inducted Into California Building Industry Hall of Fame

February 26, 2007 -- Petaluma, Calif.; Delco Builders & Developers President Doyle Heaton announced the official opening of Southgate Park and Southgate Art Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony being held on Thursday, March 1 from 3 pm to 6 pm.

A ribbon cutting and brief ceremony with local dignitaries, including Petaluma Mayor Pamela Torliatt will take place at the Southgate Art Park at 3 pm.
The Art Park features a unique piece of artwork by local artist Donna Billick called, “Home Stretch,” which was inspired by Petaluma’s heritage as an agricultural community.

The Art Park is located on the corner of Lakeville Highway and Frates Road at the entrance to Southgate, a residential development of 200+ single-family homes by Delco Builders. There will be a reception honoring Ms. Billick following the ceremony and held in the Turnberry Collection of model homes.

Commissioned by Delco Builders and bestowed to the City of Petaluma, “Home Stretch” is an 18-foot-high upside down obelisk, and an homage and expression unique to Petaluma. Featuring mediums of mosaic tile, cement and steel, the structure is sculpted into five spheres, with each sphere going from small to large in an inverted pyramid style. Each supports the other with the smallest sphere at the bottom of the work representing earth, or what the artist refers to as “our collective home that supports us all.” The scenes stretched around the spheres represent Petaluma with imagery of chickens, cows, barns, grapes, and farms, tributes to the water ways and the hills that define Petaluma.

“A community is defined by one home, with one family linked to another,” said Petaluma resident and artist of “Home Stretch” Donna Billick. “The stretched images around the other forms on the artwork epitomize the links and specifically represent the Petaluma community, forming a portrait of both cultural and physical properties.”

Delco Builders is dedicated to providing parks and open spaces within and around its communities. The Southgate Park, which was built by Delco and given to the City of  Petaluma Parks & Recreation, is an example of Delco’s commitment to this effort. This 1.1 acre new community park features many amenities including a walking and biking path which surrounds the perimeter of the park, four separate play structures, picnic benches, swing sets and a grassy field.  The park’s path connects to a system of walking and biking paths located in the open space area of the Southgate community.
The Southgate Park is located in the middle of the new Southgate neighborhood bounded by Tessa Way on the south, Southridge Drive on the west and Southgate Drive on the north.

Another Delco Builders’ example of creating community space associated with one of its developments can be seen along Yorkshire Road just off Sestri Lane and near Sonoma Mountain Parkway in Petaluma, where the city built a seven-acre sports park with kids' playground, two ball fields, tennis courts and other amenities. The park is on land donated to Petaluma by the former landowner Richard Gatti. Funds to construct the new park were provided primarily by park fees paid by developers and a generous grant from Delco Builders.  Delco built and sold 46 single-family homes near the park (Windsor Collection at Statford Park) and 46 townhomes there (Chelsea Square at Stratford Park). These communities sold out in late 2006.

Southgate is the builder’s largest community currently for sale and is presented in two distinctive collections (Turnberry and Muirwood) that feature nine different models. Exterior features were designed by the noted architectural firm, KTGY Group, with Craftsmen and Farmhouse-style homes. Welcoming front porches, an impressive list of included features and extensive customizing options for interiors will make Southgate one of the most desired neighborhoods in Petaluma. The homes are priced from the high-$600,000s to mid-$800,000s. Most of the homes in the first of three construction phases have been sold. Delco Builders has started construction on the second phase of 70 homes. Nearly 60 families already live in Southgate.
